HomeBase 2.3 – ‚User Account Control‘ Dialog Box

If you have recently installed HomeBase 2.3 on a newer computer (Windows 7 or Vista), you may be encountering a „User Account Control“ dialog box that pops up whenever you launch the HomeBase program. The dialog will contain text similar to the following:

Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?

While not a serious issue, the dialog box can become an annoyance. However, the solution to the problem is relatively straightforward:

  1. Right click on the HomeBase 2.3 icon on your desktop, and click on „Properties“ in the drop-down menu.
  2. On the „Shortcut“ tab (this should be selected by default), the „Target“ box will probably contain something along the lines of „C:\Program Files\Homebase\UNWISE.EXE“ or „C:\Program Files\Homebase\INSTALL.LOG“.
  3. *If the first part of the Target’s path is NOT „C:\Program Files\Homebase“, the program has been installed in a non-standard location, and you should contact Customer Support for further assistance.

  4. In the Shortcut tab, change the path in the „Target“ box to „C:\Program Files\Homebase\Homebase.exe“, and click [OK]. Your HomeBase 2.3 icon may change, but don’t worry, this is normal.

The next time you open HomeBase, you should no longer encounter the dialog box.
